GTR’s aim is to generate emission-free renewable electricity and heat for the region by using the geothermal energy stored deep in the Rupertiwinkel. Through this, GTR contributes not only to the electricity but also to the heat transition in the region. Geothermal energy is available around the clock regardless of the weather. This helps to make our world a little greener. As a Bavarian company, the local aspect is also of great importance to GTR. The project is implemented with the involvement of local companies and in close coordination with the surrounding municipalities
At the end of last year, the expansion of the geothermal energy installation was started. Hoogweg wants to drill 5 wells: 2 production wells and 3 injection wells. The drilling process was completed by mid-May 2022. The next step is testing the production of heat, this is the phase in which we learn more about the energy (hot water) that we are going to produce. The installation will also be further completed, these are the activities that are carried out above ground.
