The Carnot Battery is based on a packed-bed which stores energy in the form of high-temperature heat. An electrical heater heats pressurised air to 900-1200 °C. This hot air flows through a packed bed made from a high-temperature ceramic. carbonclean has developed simulation models of the charging, storage and discharging process and validated the technology with a pilot plant at the Institute for Energy Systems and Technology of the University of Darmstadt. carbonclean has been granted patents covering key aspects of the technology.
